The European Union is bracing for a potential energy crisis as winter approaches, with projections indicating a shortfall of approximately 14 billion cubic meters of natural gas. This deficit represents roughly 7% of the bloc's total demand, an amount sufficient to supply between 10 and 12 million households. According to findings from the Institution for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis and reports from European gas network operators, ongoing geopolitical instability in Iran is further complicating global energy availability. If the EU cannot secure alternative sources, member states may be forced to implement mandatory energy conservation policies and face the risk of significantly higher utility costs for consumers. National energy officials have been briefed on these findings, which highlight the urgent need for the bloc to address its supply vulnerabilities before the coldest months arrive.
