A collaborative effort between Polish and Ukrainian experts has resulted in the exhumation of 115 Polish soldiers. These individuals lost their lives in 1939 while defending Lviv, a city that was part of Poland at the time and is currently located in Ukraine. The soldiers fell during the simultaneous invasions by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union at the onset of the Second World War. This joint archaeological project marks a significant step toward resolving long-standing historical tensions between Warsaw and Kyiv regarding the recovery of war victims. The successful completion of these works on the former cemetery site reflects a growing trend of cooperation between the two nations concerning sensitive historical matters related to the conflict.
