The Speak Out platform has gathered over 2,000 anonymous reports of harassment, bullying, discrimination, and sexual violence within Irish higher education since 2021. Experts suggest that rising report numbers reflect improved awareness and better data collection rather than an actual increase in incidents. During the 2024/25 academic year, 560 reports were filed, primarily concerning harassment and bullying. While students and staff are increasingly utilizing the tool, many still hesitate to pursue formal complaints due to fears of retaliation, uncertainty about the process, or concerns that their cases might not be taken seriously. The initiative serves as a vital resource for victims to document their experiences and access support services. Data indicates that these institutions mirror broader societal issues, with women and individuals with disabilities being disproportionately represented among those reporting misconduct.
