Kazakhstan will not be able to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest following a decision by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The organization confirmed that the state-owned Khabar Agency is ineligible for full membership, a prerequisite for competing in the annual event. The EBU cited that Kazakhstan is situated outside the designated European Broadcasting Area and does not hold membership or observer status within the Council of Europe. Although the EBU recently updated its statutes to permit certain non-European broadcasters to join, the Kazakh agency failed to meet the necessary criteria. The EBU acknowledged the Khabar Agency as a long-term associate member, noting its ongoing collaboration with the union, but maintained that full participation remains impossible under current regulations.
