According to recent data published by Eurostat, Poland granted approximately 467,314 initial residence permits to foreign nationals in 2025. This figure places the country third within the European Union, trailing behind Spain and Germany, while surpassing both Italy and France. Despite this high ranking, the total number of permits issued by Polish authorities has experienced a decline for the fourth consecutive year. This downward trend coincides with the government's ongoing efforts to implement stricter migration policies. Historically, Poland held the top position in the EU for six years between 2017 and 2022, with the volume of permits peaking at nearly one million in 2021 before the current period of reduction began.
