The Polish government has amended legislation to permit a broader range of municipalities to impose daily charges on tourists and overnight visitors. Previously, local authorities were required to meet specific environmental criteria to levy such fees, a restriction that has now been removed. This legislative shift follows significant advocacy from major tourism hubs like Kraków, which hosted nearly nine million overnight guests in the previous year. The decision comes amidst a period of robust growth for the Polish tourism sector, which recently experienced the second-highest increase in overnight stays across the European Union. By easing these regulatory hurdles, the government aims to provide local administrations with more flexibility in managing the impact of rising visitor numbers on their infrastructure and resources.
