Starting November 1st, the European Union will implement a two-euro processing fee on all parcels imported from countries outside the EU and EFTA. This charge, which applies regardless of an item's value, is intended to manage the administrative costs of processing the massive volume of individual packages entering the bloc. The new fee is additional to an existing three-euro tax on small parcels valued under 150 euros. Customs declarations will determine the total cost, as fees are calculated per product category within a shipment. While sellers are responsible for the payment, these costs may be passed on to consumers. The initiative aims to curb the influx of low-cost goods from Asian platforms, which has surged significantly since 2022, and to improve the oversight of potentially dangerous or counterfeit products entering the European market.
