Minister Thomas Byrne has conceded that Ireland is missing out on economic opportunities as other European nations significantly increase their investments in the defence sector. The government is currently exploring strategies to encourage domestic businesses to participate more actively in international defence procurement contracts. Despite these efforts to boost the involvement of Irish companies in the industry, Byrne maintained that there is no external influence or demand for the country to alter its long-standing policy of military neutrality. He emphasized that the state remains under no pressure to abandon its neutral stance, even as the broader European landscape shifts toward higher military spending and increased industrial collaboration.
