The Irish Health Service Executive has confirmed that reimbursement for the neuromuscular disease treatment Skyclarys will begin on 1 October. This decision follows a period of intense negotiations between the health authority and the manufacturer, Biogen, which resulted in a more favorable financial agreement. Although an initial review by a drug committee had recommended against funding the medication, which carries an annual cost of €288,000 per patient, senior management eventually approved the expenditure. Political representatives have expressed satisfaction with the timeline, noting that the move provides essential clarity for families managing this progressive condition. Officials are currently finalizing the necessary administrative and logistical steps to ensure the rollout proceeds without delays. The Department of Health has deferred all inquiries regarding the implementation process to the health service management team.
