The British administration has overturned an earlier authorization for a Protestant hard-liner march to proceed through a Catholic neighborhood in Portadown. Northern Ireland Secretary Chris Bryant declared that the Orange Order is prohibited from accessing this specific route, marking the first such restriction in nearly three decades. This decision follows a tense two-week period in the town. The Orange Order, a fraternal organization, has been excluded from this path since 1998 to prevent the sectarian violence that historically accompanied these annual events. While the move has been welcomed by Irish republicans, it has caused significant anger among British unionists. Secretary Bryant has formally requested that all ongoing demonstrations and protests be halted immediately to prevent further escalation of regional tensions.
