The United States and Denmark have reached a security agreement concerning Greenland, effectively ending a period of diplomatic tension caused by previous American threats to annex the territory. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated that the pact bolsters regional security while upholding Danish sovereignty and Greenlandic self-determination. Although the full text remains unpublished, officials indicate the deal restricts foreign investment from US adversaries like Russia and China and grants the American military permanent access and basing rights. The agreement, which is expected to be signed during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly, still requires formal approval from the Danish parliament. Greenlandic government representatives expressed satisfaction with the arrangement, noting that it acknowledges their interests within international cooperation. The deal aims to address long-standing American concerns regarding the strategic importance and mineral resources of the semi-autonomous territory.
