The Danish government has resumed the legislative process for citizenship after a prolonged suspension. Magnus Georg Jensen, spokesperson for the Social Liberal Party, emphasized the necessity of implementing criteria that are both rigorous and sensible. While the government coalition reached a consensus to advance the pending bill, Jensen acknowledged that the delay caused significant frustration for applicants. He specifically noted that some individuals, including children who reached adulthood during the stalemate, will face unfair consequences. The focus now shifts toward developing a new screening framework for anti-democratic values, which requires broad parliamentary support. Jensen indicated that his party is willing to compromise on these requirements to ensure a functional agreement is reached, moving away from the previous political deadlock that had left thousands of applicants in uncertainty until 2027.
