Clare councillor Mary Howard has formally addressed the lack of specialized medical facilities for victims of sexual violence within the Mid-West of Ireland. She emphasized that individuals currently requiring urgent care following an assault are forced to endure long journeys to reach dedicated units located in Cork or Galway. According to Howard, this geographical gap in service provision places an unnecessary burden on survivors during an already traumatic period. The councillor is advocating for the establishment of a local treatment center to ensure that residents in the region can access essential medical support and forensic services closer to their homes, rather than having to travel significant distances to receive professional assistance.
