The Polish interior ministry has announced plans to install over 1,000 warning sirens across the Lublin province by the conclusion of the year. This initiative serves as a direct response to the intensification of Russian military strikes occurring in close proximity to the Polish frontier. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński stated that the current infrastructure in the region is insufficient, noting that only about 30 sirens were operational at the start of 2024. Beyond physical hardware, the government is developing a mobile application utilizing Cell Broadcast technology. This system aims to transform smartphones into emergency alert devices, ensuring that citizens receive timely notifications during potential crises. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to establish a comprehensive civil protection framework from the ground up, enhancing national security in the face of regional instability.
