Duane “Keffe D” Davis, a former leader of the Crips gang, has been sentenced to a minimum of 40 years in prison for his role in the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. The 63-year-old, who previously admitted to ordering the fatal shooting in his memoir, received the sentence in a Las Vegas courtroom. Judge Carli Kierny rejected Davis’s claims of having moved on from his past, emphasizing the gravity of taking the artist’s life. The 1996 incident, which occurred following a casino altercation, remained a high-profile cold case for decades. Davis remains the only surviving individual who was present in the vehicle from which the shots were fired. While Davis plans to appeal the conviction, the family of the late musician expressed their ongoing grief and honored his legacy as an activist and cultural icon.
